The hospital expects to get $800,000 a year from "an increase in property taxes of 10 cents per $100 and in the county’s service tax from 8 to 10 cents," Grace reports. The county Fiscal Court approved the taxes in August, at a meeting "that attracted a large crowd both in favor of and against the tax."

John Sumner, the hospital’s chief executive officer, told Grace that the money is helping reduce the hospital’s current debts and helping the pay for a new $7.7 million surgery center. He said,“The additional revenues that we get from the tax will pay our bills at the end of the month.”
