IN NATIONAL PARLIAMENT DURING QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION:
The fifth phase government has managed to apprehend 3,486 illicit drug traffickers and sellers in the country since the operation started, Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office responsible for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and Disabled Hon. Antony Mavunde, has said. The deputy minister told Members of Parliament during questions and answer session when responding a question earlier raised by a special seat legislator Hon. Halima Bulembo who wanted to know the fate of the drug traffickers since the government embarked on an intensive operation to apprehend them.
The deputy minister said that out of the culprits who are already in police hands for interrogations with others who have already been arraigned in various courts, about 30 percent of them are well-known big traders who without excuse would face the wrath of the laws of the country once found guilty. He further noted that, the government continues to take care of the 5,560 drug addicts who have been preserved in various sober centres in the country whereby they are being enlightened on the bad use of the drugs and the negative impact caused by the illicit drugs and how to get away from involving in them any more. He says that, the law does not discriminate when is being applied in accomplishment of any mission set by the government in order to apprehend the defaulters as well as reducing the supply.
