Exactly 150 years ago on April 12, 1867, the first local train started in Mumbai. Run by Bombay Baroda and Central Indian (BB&CI) railway company — the Western Railway’s antecedent — the first officially designated the local, chugged out. 

The commute was from what is now Virar to a station in Bombay Back Bay – which can be located between present-day Churchgate and Marine Lines stations.
