Idea Cellular, the country’s largest mobile operator, will now permit open market data recharges of 1GB and above across 2G, 3G and 4G technology without any differential prices by March 31, 2017.
At present, a customer buys separate recharges for 2G, 3G and 4G technology at different price points and at times this leads to confusion in the mind of the user, apart from causing inconvenience.
"Idea's simplified data pricing will ensure data recharges across all technologies are available at the same price point. Customer can choose the recharge price basis usage and volume available in pack, without having to worry about the platform the customer's device is logged in,” Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer at Idea Cellular said.
“We believe that our simplified plans will enable consumers to enjoy the benefits of high speed Internet on smartphones and be a part of the Digital India revolution,” he added.
With the data proliferation in India, customers across different regions using different devices and technologies are now consuming more mobile data on their handheld devices. Product categories such as sachets and freedom packs will also move subsequently to unified pricing and will be rolled out nationally in phases by May 31, 2017.
Separately, the Aditya Birla group company has launched 4G services in the Bihar and Jharkhand circle on Friday March 17,2017
The company flagged off its services from Muzaffarpur with plans to cover five towns this month. The GSM operator intends to cover 18 towns, including the major cities of Patna, Ranchi, Gaya, Sasaram, Motihari, Dhanbad, Bokaro by June 2017.
“Idea has consistently invested in network expansion to become a pan-India wireless broadband operator, readying our 200 million customers for the digital era. Over the last one year, Idea has more than doubled its mobile broadband network on the 4G/3G platform, and now covers over 50 per cent of India’s population,” said Anish Roy, COO-Corporate at Idea Cellular.
Idea’s mobile broadband data services are currently available to nearly 500 million Indians across nearly 100,000 towns and villages.
